I just wrote a new post, but i published it under the wrong thing, so to view my post, go to the top of the page and click on new york times article.
i am beginning to realize that i am a tad behind on my research project, but watching the different documentaries the past couple days has helped me get back on track. I wasn’t sure which direction i was heading in, and i was lacking the motivation to figure it out. However, with “China In The Red”, and “Born Under the Red Flag” I am thinking that I need to concentrate on China’s economy. Walmart could not have become successful in China without the changes in China’s economy. I am going to begin my paper with a background of how China implemented a market economy and how Deng Xiaoping did so.
as wordpress would say, howdy all…
For this first entry I wanted to share some ideas about our research assignment.
I am actually very interested in continuing with the idea I shared with the class on the first day: Walmart. I think that possibly comparing Walmart in China with the franchise in the US would be interesting. There are different labor laws, and I feel as though the whole idea of Walmart is polarized within these two countries. Like we discussed briefly on Monday, in America Walmart is a bit of a lower class shopping center, and there is somewhat of a stygma attached to it (thank you Megan M.). However, in China, Walmart is a place to go to buy more things that are offered in local towns and villages, so it would almost be luxurious to go there.
thanks for reading, any feedback?
